The Bateman Letters …

The Bateman Letters span the 1920s and 1930s, written to my Great Grandfather Ernest Bateman, primarily by his mother Mary Jane (Moore) Bateman, and his brothers and sisters: Howard, Arthur, Cora Foot, and Alma Hazle. Ernest kept his letters in an old medical bag, along with other correspondence from his wife Mable and children Helen, Mildred, Alma, and Gertrude. The letters reveal a very loving family that tried to keep connected during the bitter years of the depression. The voices and personalities of the writers come through, the only voice missing is that of Ernest, as I have not yet had any success in finding letters that he wrote to these folks, as mentioned in many of their replies.

Old fashioned filing cabinet – this contained deeds, dues receipts, letters, and other documents that Ernest Bateman wanted to keep safe.
